In my work with children and families I have developed a hope that we all become united in our diversity. We are all diverse but we must unite so that we can learn to grow as one group of people celebrating differences as well as similarities.
One goal that I would
like to set for the field of early childhood and those who work with children
is that we accept others for who they are. As teachers we are supposed to set
the example and we start by allowing children to be themselves and working to
let those children shine through their individuality.
I would also like to
thank everyone who has worked with me this past 8 weeks. I have enjoyed reading
your blogs and your feedback to my blogs. This has been a true learning
experience and I look forward to seeing some of you in the next 8 weeks.

Jennifer,
ReplyDeleteI love the poster that you added to your page that uses the word diversity to describe how we should value each other regardless of skin color, intellect, talent, or years (age). I also like how you said that we need to accept others for who they are and that we as teachers need to set the example in allowing children to be themselves and let their individuality shine through. Great post! Thanks
Jennifer,
ReplyDeleteYour post is beautiful and so informative your goal is one that we all should strive for, I know I am. If we do as we say and show our students that it is a wonderful thing to accept others as they are Oh what a wonderful world we will have to live in. Have a great journey in reaching your goals at Walden, maybe we will meet again in another class.

Hi Jennifer,
ReplyDeleteI agree with you that ‘we are all diverse’ and because of this we learn from each other and celebrate difference as well as similarities. It reminds me of the sentence I used to quote, ‘We are many and we are one; we are special and we are same.’ In my school’s curriculum, we have an ongoing unite teach student to understand themselves, know that they are special and lean how to relate to others. I learned that children are the most pure and innocent group in the world, it is what adults do that can influence children’s perspectives towards to world. That reminds me when I am in front of children, I am the adult that showing that how I react to the ones different to me, how I show my respect and being open to things that contrast me. Wish you all the best to your future study in Walden and wish u succeed in becoming an excellent early childhood teacher! Hope to stay in touch at work and learning in the future!
Jennifer,
ReplyDeleteI agree with you that we need to allow children to be themselves and not force them to conform. It's important to let them know that they are fine the way are. I believe this will help them become comfortable in their skin and develop a higher self-concept. Thank you for sharing your personal experiences with the class. You offered a unique perspective. Best of luck with your next course!
