My son and I on July
3rd getting ready for some fireworks. We got rained out, welcome to
Florida, LOL!!!!But he was a trooper and we had fun anyway.
Ever since
I became a mother to my step children 13 years ago I have always loved reading
Dr. Seuss books. One of my favorites is Mr.
Brown Can Moo, Can You? When my stepson was just 5 he would beg me to read
this book over and over and he would love to repeat the sounds. We would turn
it into a game and see who could make the sounds the fastest or the quietest. Since
then I have shared this book and these games with my two children and the
children in my classroom every year. When I first started reading Dr. Seuss books
and ways to enhance children’s learning I have come to realize the importance
of books like these. These books bring language skills into the classroom in
such a fun and exciting way that most of the time the kids don’t even realize
that they are working.
In
reading so many Dr. Seuss books and researching Dr. Seuss I have also found
some quotes that I keep with my every day. Today I share two that are special
to me for various reasons. This first one is a special reminder to me about why
my job as a child care educator and center director is so important.
“A person’s a person no matter how small.” -Dr.
Seuss
Every
day I get up and go to work and do the best that I can because these small
children that a lot of people look at as less important or inferior just
because they are children really do matter. They are people just like us and
they need someone to see them that way to help them to be the best possible
people they can be as they grow up.
Another
quote that is really special to me is one that I bring into my classroom and
share with my children often because sometimes everyone needs to be reminded
that:
“Today you are you, that is truer than true,
there is nobody else your than you” -Dr.
Seuss
This
is something that I like to talk about with my children often. I love to share
with them how God as made them special and different from everyone else around
them and that even though they will find things in common between them and
others they will also find differences. I express upon them the importance of
embracing those differences and being who themselves instead of hiding who they
are just to fit in with the crowd. I have found that by doing this I am helping
to raise a community of children with self-esteem and confidence. Maybe they
can take these lessons with them and make a difference in their community and
the lives of others when they grow up.
I am excited to be starting my very first blog! I have been working in childcare for the past 8 years and am currently a childcare center director as well as a Voluntary Pre-Kindergarten Teacher. While I have spent the last 7 years being in a classroom and educating children but this last year as an Assistant Director, then Director, has been extremely rewarding and I feel like I have finally found where I belong. As a center Director I am making curricula decisions and helping to provide the center with the staff needed to help the children have a safe and loving educational environment that they can remember for a life time. I look forward to this blog and sharing experiences with everyone. I also look forward to others sharing their ideas and experiences with me.
